Sonoma is California's happiest county according to a new Galllup poll. I can't say I'm surprised at this since people do seem happier here than elsewhere. Folks smile at you on the street and they wave from their cars. But, please, don't just take it from me. Here's a link to a story about the survey.
I can't imagine being unhappy here. I've spent alot of my life on Sonoma Mountain land once owned by author Jack London who famously said, "I have everything to make me glad I am alive. I am filled with dreams and mysteries. I am all sun and air and sparkle. I am vitalized, organic." That was written in the early 1900's. How happy I am that some things remain the same even after 100 years. Yes. Happiness is living in Sonoma County.

Think I saw a dairy or cheese commercial with grinning cows in the happiest county in CA...was that
yours? Is that happiness and sense of contentment all without seditives, mood elevators? Fueled by friendly people, gorgeous scenery and lower population for a sense of space? What is the secret?
Kirsten, that's a great story!! I love Sonoma County, too. Great Localism post!
Andrew: No that post wasn't mine....but one of California's happiest cows is named KIRSTEN! How cool is that? I think Sonoma County came out on top because we do have lots of space in which to roam and it is amazingly beautiful and our lifestyle is slower than most. I'm here for the duration!
Hi Lottie: Thanks for your comment. It is a great story and it's wonderful to have data to support the way I feel every day I wake up here.
Hi Kirsten - What a great distinction! I really liked Jack London's quote, too :)
Debi:
It is a great thing, isn't it? What more can a person want? Living in Slow-noma...in the happiest county in the state? I know it doesn't get better than this!
Hi Kirsten, That is a wonderful distinction for Sonoma. Your photograph is gorgeous, how could you not be happy surrounded by such beautiful scenery?
What a joy it must be for you to sell Sonoma real estate!
That cow's nose is TOO close. I feel like I need to go wash my face...

We agree, lovely post. Well done!
I think I could be happy in Sonoma too. When the HGTV dream home give away was there, I entered every day. I never told anybody I was entering in it and then when it was getting close to the end of the contest I found out that one of my good friends was also "silently" entering. We had a good laugh.
It is beautiful there. I count my blessings that I'm not far away. Just a hop, skip and a jump from some of California's treasures.
Andrew: Where did you get that beast, anyway?
Chrystina: Come on over....I'll buy you lunch!
I'm pretty happy down here in San Diego, but I'm also the type who could be happy anywhere because I tend to make my own happiness. No surprise that the happiest county is in California. Now if we can just get our politicians under control, we could be the happiest state, too!
Russel: A long way to go before we're the happiest state....if we can just get the politicians to listen....that would be start! Thanks for popping in.
